5 Reasons Why You Should Write a Book.

Thinking of writing a book? Here are five reasons why you should bite the bullet and just go for it.

“Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.”- Louis L’amour.

1.)  Improve your writing ability.

Often, aspiring authors get bogged down by the fact that their writing isn’t as good as they want it to be. Its always a little painful to read over something you have just written and know that it could be so so much better. This can lead to you putting off writing your novel until you feel you have perfected the craft. Well, the truth is, you will never be able to write the perfect book. The only way you will improve is by practice. So my advice is don’t hold back. If you want to write a book and know you have a story to tell, then write it. If it isn’t good then re-write it again and again until its something you can be proud of.  If you don’t want to publish that’s fine. The point is that you have written a book and through doing so have become a better writer.

2.)  Creative outlet

If you find yourself drifting into regular daydreams about a story you want to write, the characters you want to create then you should write about it. Not only is it an excellent form of escapism but you will probably have a lot of fun doing it. Writing can relive a lot of the stress we encounter on a daily basis as well as allowing us to see our creations come alive on the page. Plus, at the end of it you will have created something unique that you have made and can be proud of.

3.)  Share your work with others

Writing is a bit like magic. When someone reads your writing you are painting a picture in their mind using nothing but words, and that is really amazing. For example, if I told you to think of a pink lighthouse sitting on the top of a cliff then I have conjured an image into your head using nothing but words. I am not even in the same room as you and yet you are now thinking about a pink lighthouse on the top of a cliff. You can use your writing to share your ideas and thought with others. So, if you want to share your stories, write a book.

4.) Inspire others

People are often inspired by reading powerful and moving pieces. If you have a passion or cause that you want to share you can use your writing to inspire others.

5.)  Make money

Lastly, the final reason you should write that book is that you could make money from it. If you write a really good story that you want to share there is no reason why you cant publish and promote your book for profit. Publishing is not the be all and end all of writing and I am a firm believer that you should never write a story for the sole purpose of getting published. However, if you have written a book and you want to share it with the world then there is no reason why you can’t make a bit of money while doing this. Self-publishing through platforms like Amazon has made it easier than ever to publish and best of all, it can be done for free.

If you were sat nodding your head in agreement to any of those five reasons then what are you waiting for? Get writing. Let me know in the comments what you want to write a book about and tell me why you want to write it.

First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Chloe and I am an aspiring author and, (surprise surprise), I have decided to write and publish a book.

Like many aspiring authors, I have a plethora of worries and concerns about writing. Will my book be good? How will I motivate myself to finish it? What if people laugh and ridicule me? I’m afraid that I wont know the answer to any of these questions until I have done it. Putting my writing out there makes me very vulnerable to failure and criticism which, to be frank, terrifies me.

However, the one thing I am certain I will regret is never trying and I fear that if I don’t do this now I never will. Even if my book is considered bad and people hate it at least I will be able to say I have written a book.

So I have started this blog to accompany my writing journey. I will be posting all the tips, tricks and advice that I pick up along the way as a beginner author. This is partially to help motivate me to keep writing, but I also hope to inspire others to start their writing journey as well.

I will be posting new content every Monday, so feel free to subscribe and receive notifications about new posts via email.
